COME AND LEARN TO ENJOY RUNNING WITHOUT SHOES! Previously considered by many as an "extreme sport", barefoot running (BFR) is now becoming recognized as a more healthful alternative to shod running. Many "joggers" are surprised to learn that BFR is both accessible to the non-elite and enjoyable by the non-masochist! Commonly asked questions about BFR: Q: Why would I want to run barefoot? A: Because you will learn to stop "jogging" (bouncing up & down) and start RUNNING, the smooth gait evolu …
Come on our and meet other runners to keep motivated. This group is designed to provide education, support and motivation to beginning and advanced runners. Learn running technique, increase running speed, and proper tools to prevent those running injuries that often put you on the sideline. As a personal trainer I often find people want to start a running program but don't have the knowledge, motivation, support and encouragement they need to get started. You will also meet others that are at …
Grab your shoes, a bottle of water, and let's get a move on! This group is for 30 somethings in the Naperville area who are on the lookout for fun and active things to do in the area. While going out for dinner, drinks, and movies is fun (and likely to show up on the group calendar every now and then), the main purpose of this group is to get people off the couch and outside doing something active! Meetups include walking/jogging on the riverwalk, bike riding, hiking, kayaking, tennis, etc in …

This group is designed for women who have health club memberships but don't go regularly, have exercise equipment at home but it's used to hold clothing instead, want very badly to attain a healthy weight goal but feel they need encouragement from a small group with similar goals. The idea behind our group is to meet and workout together in an effort to support each other weekly as we share our challenges and achievements. I think talking about our obstacles and encouraging each other to stay co …
Nature Trail Runners is a casual running club that hosts group runs in Montgomery, Oswego, Aurora and Naperville. We aim to take advantage of the many scenic bike paths and trails the area has to offer. We also host social events so we can all hang out and relax after those tough runs! I started this club because I was unable to find one near where I live. There are wonderful running clubs for Bolingbrook, St. Charles, Downers Grove, and many other surrounding cities, but none for the large city …

Don't allow this winter to slip by not having contributed anything positive to your health- get in shape while everyone else is indoors hibernating. My goal is to meet 2-3 times a week, beginning at the end of November, at Portage Park and complete the 9 week Couch Potato to 5k program. Once we've completed that program we can continue adding to our runs until we're able to complete 5 miles comfortably. I am a beginner runner - we'll be beginning the program with only 1 mile of running at a pace …
I challenged myself to do 12 5ks in 12 months. In the end it was the best challenge I have ever set for myself because it turned out to be an adventure than I had not anticipated on having. Anyways, I wanted to make the expereince more social. I know a lot of people sign up for races because of family or friends, but what happens when that person can't go and you don't have any body to do a particular race with you? I know, most people end up not doing the race in that situation! So, I figured c …

Myself and my coworkers are runners looking for some motivation during the winter months. We work at element wellness located at 233 W North Ave (near North and Wells) and want to start a weekly running group. We will meet on Wednesday evenings at 6pm at element and go out for 3-4 mile run and come back. The best part is that our office is a raw juice and smoothie bar so all attendees will get a free juice or smoothie at the end of their run!
It's time for our collective neighborhoods to have their own running group. All levels, all paces, all distances welcome. I recommend starting with one or two weeknight runs? Those interested we can end the evening with a beer at a local bar.
